Record Fans!

Looking for a record re-purpose project? Instead of being a fan of music, turn your music into a fan!

You will need:
  • Record - Goodwill sells them for a dollar!
  • Hand saw & cutting surface
  • 330 grit sand paper
  • Spray paint, painter's tape, newspaper (optional)

1. Set up your cutting surface. I used two saw horses and a two-by-four.

Mentally divide the record into thirds. Mark the thirds, if necessary.

We're going make a straight cut from the outside of the circle to the tiny inner circle.

3. Saw 1/3 of the record away from the first cut line. At this point you will have one fan cut out of the record. Cut the remaining two-thirds in half.

4. Sand the cut edges of the record

5. Sand the center point of the record.

6. It'll look like this.

7. Sand the pointed edges.

8. Sand the remaining pieces.

You can either consider the project finished or spray paint the pieces.

Use them as fans or outside toys. They're fun to fling around the backyard!

Editors note: I don't recommend using a power saw on this project - the high friction may melt the record as you're cutting!

  2. Great upcycle idea! My local charity shop sells old records really cheap too, though I guess it's important to check it's not worth something before chopping them up! Might have to try this out with the weather heating up. Thanks for the tutorial! :)
